The beginning of the year typically lends itself to newness. Some may be thinking about how to earn more money; some may think about losing weight while others may consider whether it’s time for a new career. If the latter one applies to you, why not consider a rewarding career in the trades? We offer great benefits, a reliable pension and career training throughout your entire tenure as a tradesperson. Maybe it’s time to get out from behind that desk and let your hands get dirty!
Did you know that as soon as you are ready to become a painter, drywall finisher, glazier, hazardous waste remover, sign writer, EIFS mechanic and more, the career training programs begin? Hands-on classes begin at the Ontario Industrial Finishing Skills Centre and other training facilities. Learning involves class room work and real life, hands-on scenarios where you’ll work with an expert in your field of interest. The best part about union career training is that you’ll get paid while you’re learning the job. It really can’t get much better than that!
Once you become a full-fledged trades person, you’ll have the opportunity to take continuing education courses. We typically post the latest health and safety classes on our website for with scheduling information. Additionally, when an opportunity for CEC arises, such as English as a Second Language, we’ll let you know via our website, Facebook and/or Twitter. These sessions will keep you up-to-date in your career field with the latest information. It’s important to always be on the cutting edge of training in your field, especially so injuries and accidents don’t occur.
Should you have questions about career training opportunities, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. We’re ready to help you with a new career in the trades and welcome you as a new union member into IUPAT.
