The upcoming 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games are approaching and bringing with them plenty of construction opportunities in the Greater Toronto Area. Currently slated for construction are new sporting venues and add-ons to existing facilities that athletes, coaches, trainers and spectators from around the world will utilize for a variety of athletic events. These include CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatics Centre and Field House, the Athletics Stadium, Athletes Village and Etobicoke Olympium. Each of these projects will bring work opportunities for our trades to get involved.
Three area general contractors, PCL, Ellis Don and Bondfield will be using the trades to fulfill their slate of building projects which will make all Pam Am-related construction 100% union built. In addition to this positive news, another benefit is that once some of the facilities have been used for the games, they will be turned over to the University of Toronto and other institutions so they can be utilized for sporting events and the advancement of higher education.
Currently, facilities are being planned in downtown Toronto, York, Durham, Peel, Halton, Simcoe, Hamilton and Niagara. More information about the games and plans for sporting venues can be found on the Pam Am/Parapan Am Games site at http://www.toronto2015.org/venues.
