District Council 46 Scholarship Award 2019

District Council 46 is proud to present our Scholarship Award Program! Once again, we will offer two scholarships to children and grandchildren of IUPAT District Council 46 painters, drywall tapers, glaziers, hazmat workers, and stucco workers. If you have someone in your family interested in pursuing further education, please encourage them to apply for the scholarship.

About our Scholarship

IUPAT values education, and we recognize that education comes in many different forms. Whether someone is interested in pursuing education through trade school, college, or university, we want to do what we can to make that more accessible and affordable. Post-secondary costs are continuing to rise, but that shouldn’t stop talented and determined students from pursuing further education.

A committee of members from District Council 46 will be awarding two scholarship awards of $2000.00 each to the institution of choice for a member’s child or grandchild.

Criteria for Submission

To win one of the scholarship awards, the applicant must submit an essay of no less than 1,000 words and no more than 2,000 words on the specific topic below:

The Province of Ontario recently passed Bill 66, Restoring Ontario’s Competitiveness Act (“Bill 66”) which, among other things, made amendments to the Labour Relations Act (“LRA”).

Under one such amendment, designated employers, including municipalities, school boards, hospitals, colleges and universities will be deemed to be “non-construction employers” under the LRA thereby allowing them to potentially “opt-out” of their collective agreement obligations with Construction Trade Unions.

Please set-out whether you agree or disagree with this amendment to the LRA and the reasons to support your answer. In your essay, please discuss whether or not this amendment is an attack on ordinary workers and unions or a reasonable and sensible approach to lowering business costs to make Ontario more competitive.

If there is interest in applying for one of the awards, please complete the application form and essay and submit them to our office no later than August 1, 2019. If you have any questions, please contact Nicole at our office at (416) 630-9604 or 1 (800) 668-1823.

We look forward to your application!
