We’re proud to announce that we are once again presenting 2 scholarships to children and grandchildren of IUPAT District 46 painters, drywall tapers, glaziers, hazmat workers, and stucco workers. If you have someone in your family who is considering pursuing further education, please encourage them to apply for the scholarship! Read on for more information.
IUPAT values education, and we recognize that education comes in many different forms. Whether someone is interested in pursuing education through trade school, college, or university, we want to do what we can to make that more accessible and affordable. Post-secondary costs are continuing to rise, but that shouldn’t stop talented and determined students from pursuing further education. This is why we are offering two scholarship awards of $2,000 to the institution of choice for the child or grandchild of a member.
Applicants must submit an essay of between 1,000 and 2,000 words on the topic below:
During the 19th and 20th centuries, the Canadian Labour Movement was focused on issues that provided a higher standard of living for workers, including health and safety legislation, health and welfare benefits, wages, formal collective bargaining etc. Today the number of unionized workers in Canada is decreasing and there is a skills shortage in the construction industry.
In your opinion, how can labour unions in the construction industry reverse the decline of the union’s market share, including for example, taking advantage of immigration and Canadian demographics to recruit and retain apprentices? Consider, as well how labour unions can utilize social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) to reach and recruit new members.
Applicants must also be the child or grandchild of an IUPAT District Council 46 member (painter, drywall taper, glazier, hazmat worker, stucco worker), and submit a completed application form, which can be downloaded here. Applications must be submitted to our office no later than July 27, 2018.
Please encourage any qualified applicants to apply and contact Nicole at our office with any questions. She can be reached at (416) 630-9604 or 1-800-668-1823 during business hours. We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful applications!
