According to several industry reports, new construction is on the rise creating new job opportunities for many people, including interior and exterior painters. Currently, many trade colleges are looking for ways to boost their training in order to prepare millennials for the many opportunities that lie within skilled trades.
The Painters Union is accepting a limited number of applications for E.I.F.S. (Stucco) Mechanics. There is no cost to you for this training, but there is a one time fee of $810.00 that is remitted to the Province of Ontario.

As you are all aware or should be aware by now, Health and Safety Training has been MANDATORY in the Ontario Construction Industry in the Province for many years. This training includes but is not limited to WHMIS, PEWP, Suspended Access Equipment, Fall Protection (soon to be called Working at Heights), Ladders and Scaffolds to name just a few in a long list of training courses in the Construction Industry. Each year this list grows as the Province attempts to protect the lives of all workers in the Construction Industry.

IUPAT members in Ontario have voted 92% in favour of transferring $0.40 per hour from their wages to the Health and Welfare plan to maintain their existing benefits. All locals have voted and ballots have been counted to have the transfer wages effective February 1, 2012. The members employed under EPSCA will have this change effective May 1, 2012 according to their collective bargaining agreement.
It is the beginning of a new year and the time to begin thinking about your future. As a young adult in high school, hopefully you are enjoying your time in school. If you are a junior or senior, you may be considering opportunities for higher education and job opportunities.
District Council 46 awards two scholarships each year to children and grandchildren of members that are moving into post secondary education at a college or university. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of members (not representatives or staff) from various Local Unions in the Council to judge essays of not less than 1000 words on a subject related to the labour movement and workers. The essay submissions are anonymous among the committee members and scored based on research, content and quality of the essay.
S. Frank “Bud” Raftery Award is available to sons, daughters and legal dependents of IUPAT members. The IUPAT Scholarship Committee chooses winners from essays submitted by scholarship applicants. Annually, 10 scholarships are awarded yearly in the amount of $2,000.00.
