In Memory of Armando Colafranceschi
It is with sympathy we mourn the passing of Armando Colafranceschi. Following a courageous fight with cancer Armando leaves a legacy of his life and in particular to the members of the IUPAT. Armando became a member of the IUPAT in October 1960 and was a chartered member of Local Union 1891. Armando was an influence in the labour movement in Toronto during the 1960’s as an organizer in the residential sector of the construction industry and among one of the leaders in the building trades at that time. He continued this legacy leading Local Union 1891 to become the largest drywall finishers local union in North America. Armando was a leader of the IUPAT throughout Ontario and served the membership with innovation and diligence during his time bringing piecework in the residential sector of the construction industry that was followed by many other trades. In 1989 he became the General Vice President for the Canadian Region and served all IUPAT members in Canada until his retirement in 2005. Armando leaves behind his loving wife Silvana, and sons Joseph, Michael, and Donald along with grandchildren and other family members.
IUPAT and Education Initiatives with TEAM
Union education and training & leadership programs are very important to IUPAT. As union members, it is vital that we reach out to potential younger leaders who are the future of this painters union. TEAM (Together Training & Activating Members) reaches out to young adults who are considering the pursuit of a career in one of the trades within IUPAT. New members are educated on how to participate in volunteer activities, take political action, pursue additional training and assist others.
